Mr. Lim came to Malaya from China when he was a small boy. He settled in Pasir Penambang on the Selangor coast and learnt how to shape metal from his grandfather. He is the last few blacksmiths, who still shapes knives and machetes the traditional way – beating with his bare hands, using coal for fire and quenching metal in cold water to ensure sharpness. There is no guarantee; timing has to be perfect otherwise the metal breaks.
