Segar has fasted for 45days to prepare for this spiritual penance of hook piercing and strength endurance. His business in Batang Kali has been doing well the past year. So, he is now keeping his vow to take the kavadi up Batu Caves for the second time. This time, he endures bigger hooks and a heavier kavadi. When Thaipusam comes round again next year, he will be participating again, he wants to keep his vow to Lord Murugan for three years.
